Welcome to Newtown Woods Homeowners Association
Good afternoon to Newtown Woods,

Communities nationwide are being asked to take precautions to protect at risk populations and to prevent the spread of Covid-19. It is evident that we, too, should join the effort and do what we can to prevent and stop the virus.  This is especially appropriate in communities like ours where a high percentage of our residents are in the so called high risk category.  Happily, there have been no reports of the virus in our Community to date – though this may change.

The Executive Board has been conferring on appropriate protective measures to protect our residents.  As an initial step we’ve asked our cleaning staff to do a thorough cleaning of the clubhouse.  We intend to increase the schedule for Clubhouse cleaning until the threat has passed.  For those of you using the clubhouse, and especially those residents who use the exercise equipment there we ask that you redouble your efforts to keep a clean, safe environment.   Please use the disinfectant wipes provided in the exercise area to wipe the equipment, including the television remote controls when you finish.  Those using the kitchen are asked to clean the area thoroughly before departing.  Please clean up after yourself when using/leaving the locker rooms and restrooms.

Unless there is an acute need, the Clubhouse will remain open.  Activities that routinely occur in the Clubhouse may go on as scheduled subject to the thoughtful discretion of attendees.  Attendees should monitor the news for guidance on whether they should attend even small group activities – and, obviously, if you’re ill, you should avoid gatherings as a courtesy to all.  Special events that attract larger gatherings such as pizza parties, bingo, or special events should be discontinued until further notice and the Board will work with the Social Committee regarding events and activities until the storm passes.  Again, the idea here is protection of our community.  It is possible that the Board will limit attendance at its administrative and/or scheduled community meetings until the danger period ends.

We will not repeat the good advice that has already been given on measures to prevent the spread of the virus. Rather, we recommend that people follow the guidance already available in the media.   The United States Center for Disease Control has established an outstanding web page devoted to prevention at www.cdc.gov.  We urge you to review the CDC guidance.

The Board will continue to monitor events and will update the Community as necessary.

Sincerely,

Val Derubertis
